Dan Naylor is a trainer, educator, and expert. He is the Owner and Principle Broker of Stone River Realty and the President and Owner of the Institute of Real Estate Education, both family businesses. His passion for inspiring others has led the Institute to succeed as the top real estate school in Utah, with above average student performance, and top ranking reviews.
With over 15 years’ experience in business management and real estate, Dan is active in his community. He currently serves on the Grievance Committee at the Salt Lake Board of REALTORS, on the Technology Committee at the Utah Central Association of REALTORS, an on the Education Committee at the Northern Wasatch Association of Realtors, where he served as Chairman in 2016.
He is a Broker Instructor and Pre-License Instructor, and teaches Continuing Education throughout the state. He is a Certified Distance Education Instructor (CDEI) through the International Distance Education Certification Center. He co-wrote the Utah Law Principles and Practices Textbook.
Dan has a Bachelor of Arts in Film from the University of Utah, has won awards for his short films, and his passion for film continues. He enjoys acting and has appeared in various films and theatre over the last 20 years.
Dan organizes the SaltCON board game convention whose mission is to bring families together by playing games and interacting in a fun environment. He manages the Ion Award Game Design Competition which brings designers and publishers together from all across the world to compete for this prestigious award. Since he became a partner in the SaltCON organization, it has grown by an average of 20% every year. He continues to volunteer at other conventions and events throughout the country.
He enjoys spending time with his wife and 5 children, exploring Utah’s natural wonders, and backpacking the Uintas. He also enjoys motorcycling and playing the guitar.
Birth of a Geek
I don’t know how well you know terms like VIC-20, or Commodore 64, but those were magic to my ears when I was growing up. My father was managing a shopping mall at the time, and as part of his compensation he was given an 8086 computer, IBM compatible from a computer store. From there, I built my first 286 at age 10, then only 4 or 5 years later, my first Pentium. It wasn’t long from there before the internet hit the scene, and suddenly the whole world was interested in computers.
My experience with computers and software has always been an advantage for me in my career, and especially now where all advertising, social connections, shopping and entertainment is primarily done through computers, I find myself right on point. I believe that our Association should be a hub of services that assist real estate agents in working together, and providing better service to our clients. We need to be tech savvy, and I can bring that knowledge and professional experience to the Board.
